Answers to your questions

Why do expats need a special health insurance abroad?

Once you move abroad as an expat, your German health insurance usually no longer applies. An international health insurance like PassportCard is specifically designed for people living abroad: it protects you worldwide – for doctor visits, hospital stays, and emergencies. And: You don’t have to pay upfront – you simply pay directly with a prepaid card, also available digitally via your wallet.

Yes, PassportCard was specifically developed for people living abroad long-term. Whether you’re alone, with a partner, or as a family – you receive comprehensive healthcare coverage with worldwide validity, direct payment at the doctor’s office, and personal customer support.

Unlike many other expat insurances, PassportCard covers medical costs in real time through a prepaid card – so you never have to pay out-of-pocket or submit claims. You also benefit from global coverage, free choice of doctors, 24/7 customer support, a user-friendly app, and integrated telemedicine offering medical advice via video or phone – ideal for expats with a flexible lifestyle.

PassportCard provides worldwide coverage – even for frequent country changes. Coverage is valid in Europe, Asia, North and South America, and many other regions. Exceptions apply only to countries under international sanctions, official travel warnings, or severe security risks – such as North Korea or active war zones.
